The case study below highlights the details of an installation in Mother Hubbards Childcare Centre in Navan, Meath.
Mother Hubbard’s is a childcare organisation with four purpose built crèche and after school facilities in Navan and Dublin. All of these premises are designed with the safety and comfort of children in mind. Their highly trained staff promote an atmosphere of fun; while at the same time encourage active learning at all stages of development. Mother Hubbards have recently opened a new crèche in Ongar, Co. Dublin - the largest facility of its kind in Ireland.
Customer requirements:
When we at K.T. Communications came to provide the telephone systems for Mother Hubbard’s there were two key factors to be taken into consideration:
-
For Safety, all rooms with children should be easily contactable.
-
For security, access to the premises should be limited.
Telephone system solution:
K.T. Communications have been the communication provider to Mother Hubbard’s since 2003. We have installed Panasonic telephone systems in their premises in both their Navan premises and most recently in their new state of the art facility in Ongar, Co. Dublin.
-
Safety of the Children
Many childcare facilities rely solely upon one or two cordless phones for communication through out the building. The Cordless phone is a useful communication tool; however, if that phone becomes misplaced, communication with either internal or external parties can become impossible. This may at some stage compromise the safety of either a child or a staff member through lack of communication. For this reason we recommended a telephone fixed to the wall of every room for making internal calls. The provision of a telephone in every room provides the facility for a parent to ring in and speak with a child or staff member in any part of the facility, without someone having to run the length of the building with a cordless phone.
-
Security of the Children
To restrict access to the crèche, the doors can only be opened by authorised personnel. A magnetic lock is connected to the front door, also on the front door is a door phone connected to the phone system. When someone presses the button for the door phone it rings to a predetermined group of phones around the crèche. When a staff member answers the phone they already know that it is a caller at the front door by the ringing tone of the phone. The staff member can then open the automatic lock of the door through the telephone, by simply entering a pin code.
